The indie darlings of the 1990s, especially according to the press, are back. No new music; how in the world can that be surpassed? The 5 albums have all turned into classics and still sound perfect to this day. The ‘sloppy’ way of playing is still infectious.
Beforehand, I was really pysched about the upcoming show and I hoped for the best and much more. An almost inevitable recipe for disaster, but Pavement wasn’t going to let that happen. Clearly, the band was in a great mood and had fun playing (together). The setlist on this tour is changed up every show, so not too many songs are repeated over the previous shows, most likely adding to the spontaneity on stage.
This night was no exception. Another great setlist, giving ample room to the albums Wowee Zowee, Crooked Rain, Coorked Rain and personal favorite Brighten The Corners. The band moved the audience with beautiful instrumental pieces, where singer/guitarist Stephen Malkmus’ distinct way of guitar playing evoked admiration.
PacesetterBob Nastanovich provided humor and variety and guitarist Scott Kannberg sang a couple of songs as well. All in all, the band delivered a thrilling show. My personal concert surprise in 2022. No small feat, given my high expectations and hopes! Another show in 2023? Yes, please!
