In memoriam: Keith Moon 1946-1978

Keith Moon (vintagedrumsandmore.com)

Keith John Moon (aka Moon the Loon)
08/23/1946
09/07/1978
English drummer for the rock band The Who. He was noted for his unique style of playing and his eccentric, often self-destructive behaviour. His drumming style emphasised tom-toms, cymbal crashes and drum fills. With every album and tour his drum grew in size and he has been credited as one of the earliest rock drummers to regularly employ double bass drums in his setup. Moon regularly smashed up his kit on stage, which was part of the destructive end of many of The Who shows during their early career. In 1982 Moon was the second drummer ever to be inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame and in 1990 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Who
