What great news The Fatal Flowers had in store this year. The band reunited to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of Younger Days. A festival tour was organized, although that wasn’t really my thing. But after the tour, a new EP, Seven Days To Remember, was announced, along with a club tour. I would get to see The Fatal Flowers, the greatest rock band the Netherlands has ever produced, once again after their 2019 reunion tour. Twice, in fact. But first, Alkmaar.
So, was it as good as in 2019? Slightly less so, in my opinion, but still very good. When the sound was right, it was actually excellent, worthy of The Fatal Flowers’ status. Just as in 2019, Richard Janssen’s voice stood out. Once again, it was strong, clear and powerful. Impressive for someone who is now 65 (!) years old!
The highlights were the rockers, including the opener How Many Years, Rock And Roll Star, Well Baby and, surprisingly, Both Ends Burning, which built into an ultimate climax. The acoustic set was beautiful too, expertly performed and yet another reminder that The Fatal Flowers’ songs are simply well crafted, with just the right flow and rhythm, whatever the setting. Impressive. After that, Johnny D. Is Back delivered another glorious blast of rock.
The conclusion I reached in 2019 still holds true in 2026: what a fantastic, fantastic band!
