The first five songs seemed suspiciously similar to the disappointing concert I saw on 03-04-2023 at Paradiso. A somewhat clunky rock sound that is too heavy for the playful-sounding music of The Waterboys. Fortunately, fiddler Steve Wickham appeared, and the concert completely turned around. One beautiful song after another, performed with sparkling energy. The 25-minute break was also a bit disappointing tonight, but fortunately it did not cause the entire concert to collapse.
After the break, Steve Earle took the stage and played a number of his own songs. Wonderful! It was a great combination anyway: the folk of The Waterboys and the country of Steve Earle complemented and energized each other, reaching great heights. An evening full of highlights, including a truly magical performance of The Rolling Stones’ Dead Flowers!
