Early February 2025 it was announced that Kendrick Lamar would go on tour in Europe and my initial joy didn’t last long. The show in The Netherlands was going to be held in the Amsterdam ArenA, of all places! The worst venue for any show. And, even worse, my standard fallback Antwerp was not part of the tour schedule. Luckily, Paris was soon announced as well. In an indoor-arena I had visited before. A top location. I got hold of great tickets for me and both of my sons, standing room tickets next to the stage.
It turned out the show didn’t follow the stanard setup, SZA supporting Kendrick Lamar, but the sets were intertwined into one big 2:45 hour show.
Unfortunately, the show’s idea may have looked great on paper, but in real life it didn’t really work that well. The world’s best rapper interchanged with a mediocre singer (at best) killed the show’s continuity. A shame, because Kendrick Lamar proved once again he still is from another galaxy. His flow was unprecendented and his ease to set the entire venue on its head, was nothing less than impressive. Just one downside, the remix of m.A.A.d city was irrelevant and no improvement of the perfect original.
