Day 2 of the greatest festival I know.
Today en route to Rotterdam with Zühal, where the day once again got off to a slow start.
The nice Song Yi Jeon Qaurtet was interesting, but not enough. Joe Bonamassa is blues for dummies. It does absolutely nothing for me, even though he certainly knows how to play the guitar. Following some short stops at some newcomers off to see Lee Ritenour, who played a truly wonderful show.
Where Omah Lay had turned the venue inside out the day before, today all hope was for Seu Jorge to do the same. Alas, we quit after the third song. The other crowd pleaser soon followed, Jonathan Jeremiah. Gave the man and his music another chance, which I shouldn’t have done. Stale, boring music that doesn’t offer a thread of excitement. So, off in search of some new talent. The Open Stage (vol.4) was a joy to behold. Young musicians who took the chance to be on stage and show their chops. Great.
Unfortunately, no Samara Joy, once again the venue was packed and no people were allowed in anaymore. But, from that moment on the day got better and better. Maxwell introduced the second part of the day with a great show. Ghost-Note funked the roof off the sucker, followed by Celeste’s entrance on stage. Wow, what a voice! The modest talks in between songs contrasted with her singing voice that pierced the soul. That expression!
After a great in-between show by BLK ODYSSY off to Steam Down, who performed a truly great show. Highly original and organic music.
