Day 2 of the greatest festival I know.
The day started off wonderfully with My Baby. Such a great band, funky grooves and lots of energy. I want to see them again sometime!
The second show was even better: Mammal Hands. Jazz meant to be enchanted by. And it worked, extremely well. Another band I would like to see again in a different setting.
After the throw-away show by Juanes and great in-between act Shake Stew off to Tank And The Bangas. Hiphop from New Orleans. Wayward music, singer and performance. Beautiful!
After in-between acts Fat Night (very nice), Jamie Cullum (not my cup of tea) and Mahalia (starting singer who strated off great but ended up talking too much), off to Macy Gray. The last time I saw her she had left me somewhat underwhelmed, so I was curious. It started off disastrously. Macy seemed to be completely unaware of where she was or what she was doing and was upstaged by her (stunning) background singer. But somehow she found her groove and it turned into a memorable show. Beautiful and funky songs closed off by a jazzy cover of Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters and a roaring Burning Down The House.
And still it was not done. Off to the last piece of the concert by Masego, a young multi-talent who was about to showcase himself. A fine show. Not to be forgotten.
