Light Of Day Winterfest
As has been written before on this blog, Bruce Springsteen is no supporter of the fascist-leaning president Trump; also see the article Springsteen vs Trump. On January 17, Springsteen made a surprise appearance at New Jersey’s Light Of Day Winterfest. He performed the song The Promised Land and dedicated it to Renee Good, who was killed by an ICE agent on January 7, 2026. He introduced the song as follows.
This next song is probably one of my greatest songs. And I don’t want to be out of water tonight, but I wrote this song as an ode to American possibility: both to the beautiful but flawed country that we are, and to the country that we could be. Now, right now, we are living through incredibly critical times. The United States, the ideals and the values for which it stood for the past 250 years, is being tested as it has never been in modern times. Those values and those ideals have never been as endangered as they are right now.
So as we gather tonight in this beautiful display of love and care and thoughtfulness and community, if you believe in democracy, in liberty; if you believe that truth still matters, and that it’s worth speaking out, and it’s worth fighting for; if you believe in the power of the law and that no one stands above it; if you stand against heavily armed, masked, federal troops invading American cities, and using Gestapo tactics against our fellow citizens; if you believe you don’t deserve to be murdered for exercising your American right to protest; then send a message to this president. And as the mayor of that city has said, ICE should get the fuck out of Minneapolis. So this song is for you, and the memory of the mother of three and American citizen Renee Good.

Bruce Springsteen – Streets Of Minneapolis
Streets Of Minneapolis
As is well known, it did not end with the death of Renee Good. On January 24, 2026, nurse Alex Pretti was also killed, by multiple ICE agents and with multiple bullets. Once again, it turned out to involve an innocent civilian.
Like every right-thinking person, Springsteen was angry, very angry. Later that same day he wrote the song Streets Of Minneapolis. Today (January 28, 2026) he released the song with the following statement.
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.
Stay free, Bruce Springsteen

Lyrics
The song’s lyrics say it all.
Through the winter’s ice and cold
Down Nicollet Avenue
A city aflame fought fire and ice
‘Neath an occupier’s boots
King Trump’s private army from the DHS
Guns belted to their coats
Came to Minneapolis to enforce the law
Or so their story goesAgainst smoke and rubber bullets
In the dawn’s early light
Citizens stood for justice
Their voices ringing through the night
And there were bloody footprints
Where mercy should have stood
And two dead left to die on snow-filled streets
Alex Pretti and Renee GoodOh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice
Singing through the bloody mist
We’ll take our stand for this land
And the stranger in our midst
Here in our home they killed and roamed
In the winter of ’26
We’ll remember the names of those who died
On the streets of MinneapolisTrump’s federal thugs beat up on
His face and his chest
Then we heard the gunshots
And Alex Pretti lay in the snow, dead
Their claim was self defense, sir
Just don’t believe your eyes
It’s our blood and bones
And these whistles and phones
Against Miller and Noem’s dirty liesOh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice
Crying through the bloody mist
We’ll remember the names of those who died
On the streets of MinneapolisNow they say they’re here to uphold the law
But they trample on our rights
If your skin is black or brown my friend
You can be questioned or deported on sight
In our chants of ICE out now
Our city’s heart and soul persists
Through broken glass and bloody tears
On the streets of MinneapolisOh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice
Singing through the bloody mist
Here in our home they killed and roamed
In the winter of ’26
We’ll take our stand for this land
And the stranger in our midst
We’ll remember the names of those who died
On the streets of Minneapolis
We’ll remember the names of those who died
On the streets of Minneapolis

Update 01/30/2026
By now the White House has officially responded though spokesperson Abigail Jackson. The reaction perfectly demonstrates why the Trump administation is nothing but evil.
The Trump administration is focused on encouraging state and local Democrats to work with federal law enforcement officers on removing dangerous criminal illegal aliens from their communities – not random songs with irrelevant opinions and inaccurate information.
The media should cover how Democrats have refused to work with the administration, and instead, opted to provide sanctuary for these criminal illegals.

Tricia McLaughlin, spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, also demonstrated the skills of the Trump administration: spread lies and defend murderers.
We eagerly await Mr. Springsteen’s songs dedicated to the thousands of American citizens killed by criminal illegal aliens. Every day, the brave men and women of ICE are saving lives by arresting the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens, including murderers, rapists, pedophiles, drug dealers, gang members, and terrorists.
