The last ever Gang Of Four show took place on July 5, 2025, at the Paradio in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. An honour, a huge honour to be exact. What a great show this was. The sound was perfect, the emotion sincere, the setlist a dream and the performances full of fire and passion, just as if the original band members that were still standing, were nowhere near the 70 years of age they really were.
Announced as The Long Goodbye, the band announced their European farewell tour in early April 2025. To celebrate the 45th anniversary of debut album Entertainment! last year, the band would play the full album, followed by several other songs from their career. That was something I wanted to see. In preparation I regularly listened to Enterainment! again. What an incredibly good album it still is, why do I play it so little?
The night of the show it all gelled. The fire was still there and the realization this was the last time they played together sank in as the show went on, on the stage as well. Great, moving night with a band that dared to be innovative and willfully stayed true to their own unique sound and put a number of classic (post-)punk-funk songs to their name.
