Day 2 of the greatest festival I know.
Today en route to Rotterdam with Zühal, where the day started off great with Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram.
Next on my way to André 3000, the reason I was here today. His New Blue Sun album was different, quirky, but not completely successful. The concert at the other hand was truly exciting. André stated that no show was the same and so there were no pieces played that bore any resemblance to what had been released. A unique show.
After snippets of Ibrahim Maalouf & The Trumpets Of Michel Ange (okay), Obongjayar (nice), Masego (nondescript), Thee Sacred Souls (better) on my way to A Converstion With André 3000. Didn’t regret this at all. What a great human being and what a wonderful and moving interview!
Following Cisco Swank (very nice) onto the Joshua Redman Group With Gabrielle Cavassa, who performed classics in great jazz versions. The opener was stunning. The re-edit of Sufjan Stevens’ Chicago was enchanting. A great end to day 2 of the North Sea Jazz Festival.
