Introduction
Op June 23, 2023, I published the article De Kuip: 45 years of concerts, a report on my concerts at the Feijenoord stadium in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. By now, plans have been made to never use that location for concerts ever again.
Call for action
A petition has been launched to save ‘De Kuip’ as a concert location. I support the cause wholeheartedly and gladly provide the organisers with the opportunity to have their say.
De Kuip: the Poptempel we have to save – Sign the petition!
Rotterdam is a city full of life, culture and history. At the centre of this beating heart lies De Kuip, since 1937! It’s not ‘just’ a place for football, but is has also served as a legendary concert location where all the greats have performed on the highest levels. Think of the alternative rock by U2, the energy of The Rolling Stones, the genius of Prince, the progressive rock by Pink Floyd and, more recent, the explosive industrial metal by the German Rammstein. The stadium breathes music, unites people and brings a sound found nowhere else.
But now the unthinkable seems real: following the performances of DI-RECT in the upcoming year, the curtain will likely drop for De Kuip in its capacity as Poptempel. We can’t allow that to happen! De Kuip is more than a steel construction with chairs – it’s an iconic stage where the greats have stepped onto. A stage people still talk about and reminisce to. Together we can ensure that future generations can experience goose bumps on that very same location. Sign the petition and let yourselves be heard! De Kuip is owned by all – let’s protect its unique place in the world of music!
