A concert that left mixed feelings. I personally think it’s commendable when an artist shares their pride in their latest work. The fact that The The played their last album (the first in over 20 years) is the main reason artists create new music in the first place. On the other hand, when the new music isn’t that varied, a show can get a bit boring. Unfortuntely, this was the case with The The’s first set. The first hour just meandered on. Five songs into the show I started thinking it may have been a better idea to come in an hour late, just to witness the second part. Not because of nostalgia, but the fact that the music was more diverse.
During the second part the ‘default’ baritone of the show’s first set got more and more elaborate, the register went up, the tempo went up and the whole soundspectrum was more lively. Besides, it has to be said, it’s great hearing those songs in a live setting at the Paradiso, Both encores were amazing.
But, all in all, it was a bit thin, particularly due to the first set that killed my vibe, which is a shame really, because the latest The The album is quite good actually.
