Well, and then Nick Cave stops by again. Following the last concert I witnessed in the fairy tale like environment in my beloved Istanbul (Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, 08/21/2022) and the first time I saw him again after a long time (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, 11/04/2013), I really thought those shows were never to be equalled… I was naive. Tonight at the Ziggo Dome Cave was moving, threatening, funny, serious, driven, preacher, devil and crooner all at the same time. Such commitment, such a performance, such a sound (loud but pristine), what a band. My tenth Cave show and he still surprises me.
The opening song immediately set the standard for the rest of the show. Frogs is my favorite song off the latest Cave album, Wild God, and it was truly impressive. O Children, off my favorite album Abattoir Blues / The Lyre Of Orpheus was deeply moving. Jubilee Street overwhelms every time and it just went on and on. Highlight after highlight after highlight, there’s no point in naming songs, it was all equally great.
It’s as unbelievable as it’s true, at 67 Nick Cave is still relevant and he seems to grow as an artist every time I see him. On to the Antwerp show in October. I can hardly wait!
