Eleanora Fagan (aka Lady Day)
04/07/1915
07/17/1959
American jazz and swing singer, who made a huge contribution to jazz and vocal delivery in general. Her phrasing and tempo were particularly innovative. Many of her early albums and singles haven’t been documented officially. In 1939 she released her harrowing Strange Fruit, a poem about the racist lynchings taking place in the south of the US, accompanied by minimal moody music and Holiday’s intense performance
