Preface
Because the summer holidays are over and the schools have opened their doors once again, today a trip down memory lane.
Music HAVO 4 and HAVO 5
At my junior high school music lessons weren’t particularly popular. Boring tunes, flute (!) and other nonsense. Up to 1983. Around that time new (young) music teachers were hired. During the HAVO 4 study week music was one of the topics that could be chosen. It was soon made clear that we were supposed to make/play music ourselves. A band was formed. I was to be the singer. Such fun and I’ve learned so much. More on that some other time.
After that everything changed at our school. We performed at school parties (which drew crowds exceeding 1,000 visitors). But music education changed as well. We were taught on the history of pop-music (also, more on that some other time). The years I spent in HAVO 4 and 5 (school-years 1983/1984 and 1984/1985) I had music lessons every week, two hours in a row. Next to the history of (pop)music, which was a dream come true for me, we also had morning openings. The students took turns in bringing their favorite pieces of music, that was played that day. Recently I stumbled across all the choices.
Hereby, I give you all music choices by my fellow students and me dating back to the school-years of 1983/1984 and 1984/1985.
Morning openings HAVO 4, 1983/1984
During my time at HAVO 4 the morning openings commenced. These are the choices, that were brought to school (on cassettes) and played.

‘Uit je bol’
June 26th, 1984, was closed, according to my notes anyway, with ‘Uit je bol’. Every student (there were more than the 11 recorded in the list below) could bring music that day and two questions needed to be answered: how many of you all know this? and how many of you like this?:

Mid-morning openings HAVO 5, 1984/1985
In HAVO 5, my final year, lessons started midway through the morning, hence the term mid-morning openings. This year I recorded what I liked at the time (!) and how many students liked the song.
